Moving Checklist

  • Reach out to Bantu Mover and reserve your preferred moving date. If your move is scheduled for the busy summer months, consider contacting us 1-2 months in advance to secure your desired date.
  • Submit a change of address at your local post office.
  • Inform your primary care physician, dentist, and other service providers about your upcoming move.

  • Clear out unwanted items. Donate to local charities such as The Salvation Army, which often offers free pick-up services.
  • Arrange for elevator access, loading dock availability, and parking space reservations for your move day at both the pickup and delivery locations.
  • Begin packing. Label boxes clearly with the destination room at your new address. This organization will help save time during the move, reducing the duration of the movers' service at your location and, subsequently, saving you money.

  • Inform the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles about your upcoming move.
  • Notify your utility providers, as appropriate. This might include companies that provide your:
    1. Telephone services such as AT&T, Comcast, RCN
    2. Cell Phone services such as AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, Verizon, Virgin Mobile, Tracphone, Boost Mobile
    3. Electricity via companies like CenterPoint Energy
    4. Gas, which could be through companies like CenterPoint Energy
    5. Cable service providers such as AT&T, Comcast, RCN, DirectTV, Dish Network
    6. Internet Service Provider (ISP) such as AT&T, Comcast, RCN, EarthLink, Road Runner
    7. Water supply via the City of Houston Public Works
    8. Home Security or Alarm like ADT, Vivint, etc.
  • Plan for the disassembly of larger items, such as pool tables, trampolines, swing sets, etc.
  • Where required, arrange for parking permits. Your personal move consultant at Bantu Mover can guide you on how to proceed with this.
  • If needed, arrange for childcare or pet boarding services on the move day. Local pet service providers, such as PetSmart, offer boarding services - visit their website for more information.
  • Take time off from work to get ready for the move and ensure you're present on the moving day.

  • Ensure the moving date and time are confirmed with your moving company. Your personal move consultant from Bantu Mover will reach out to you 2-3 days prior to the move to ensure all details are correct for the moving day.
  • Give your new telephone number or cell phone number to the moving company. This way, they can reach you if necessary, while on route.
  • Pack fragile and loose items from drawers carefully in small moving boxes or inform your movers from Bantu Mover to pack these items separately.
  • Update your address for all newspapers, magazine subscriptions, and any other services you subscribe to.
  • Compile a list of friends and family to whom you will send your new address and contact details via mail or email.

  • Organize boxes containing fragile items into one section of your home. Inform our movers about these boxes on the day of the move.
  • Identify any furniture that is fragile and prepare to bring it to the attention of our moving crew.
  • Clearly indicate to our movers which items in your location are NOT coming with you.
  • Secure your checkbook, house/car keys, passports, cash, credit/debit cards, and prescription medications. We recommend that you keep these items with you during the move.
  • Confirm that telephones at your new location are operational and that cell phones are fully charged.
  • Defrost, drain, clean, and dry your refrigerators and freezers.
  • Drain gas and oil from machinery like lawn mowers, motorcycles, snow blowers, etc.
  • Disconnect the propane tank from your gas grill. Bantu Mover crew will not transport these items on the moving truck, but we will assist you in loading them into and out of your personal vehicle.
