A large television can be awkward to move even when it is light enough to lift. The screen needs protection, the packing must fit, and a wall-mounted set adds another job before loading can begin. Before your Houston move, decide who will handle each step and check the instructions for your exact TV.
Find the model number and packing instructions
Save the model number and its manufacturer’s setup or reference guide. Screen size alone does not tell you where to hold the TV, how to remove its feet or which packing supports it needs.
Instructions can differ in important ways. The Sony A90K reference guide, for example, warns against laying that model down during handling or mounting. Do not follow a general tip to place every TV face-down while removing the stand. Use your model’s directions, and get qualified help if the process is unclear.
Check the carton and inserts before moving day
Look for the original carton and fitted protective inserts, not just an empty box. Both the Sony guide and this LG television safety and reference manual recommend original packaging for transport.
If the packaging is missing or damaged, tell your mover early. Share the model and dimensions, then agree on a suitable packing plan. Ask who supplies the materials and who packs the screen. Do not assume that a blanket alone or a random large carton provides the protection your TV needs.
Keep remotes, cables and loose hardware organized separately so they cannot press against the panel. Label the parts by device, especially if several rooms have similar-looking cables.
Make a plan for a wall-mounted TV
Confirm who will remove the television from its mount and who will reinstall it at the new address. Moving, unmounting and wall installation are separate tasks to discuss; do not assume they are all included in a moving quote.
The manufacturer guides call for appropriate expertise when wall mounting. Have the installer check the TV, bracket, hardware and new wall rather than assuming the old setup will work unchanged. If you rent, check the property manager’s requirements before removing or installing wall hardware.
A simple planning note might say: “Living-room TV is wall-mounted. Installer removes it Friday; packing is arranged for Saturday’s move. At the new home, it will stay packed until installation.” This makes the handoff clear without asking the moving crew to solve it on arrival.
Disconnect carefully and keep the screen clear
Before disconnecting anything, photograph the cable layout for your own reference. Turn off and unplug the equipment, then disconnect cables according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Avoid pulling the TV forward by a cable.
LG’s guidance calls for upright transport and warns against screen contact and pressure that bends the frame. Sony also warns about panel stress, jolts and excessive vibration. Large sets need adequate help; do not attempt an awkward lift alone or grip the screen to steady it.
Share the route at both Houston addresses
A packed TV needs room through doorways and around turns. Tell your mover about stairs, narrow halls, elevator access and the distance from the loading area. For an apartment move, check the building’s rules before choosing the loading time.
- TV model, size and current mounting setup.
- Available carton and fitted inserts.
- Who handles unmounting, packing and installation.
- Access restrictions at pickup and delivery.
- A clear, protected destination for the packed TV.
Our Houston parking and elevator access checklist can help with the building details. Request a moving quote from Bantu Mover and include your TV setup so you can confirm the packing responsibilities before moving day.
